Noel – IKON and David Hill

Noel – IKON and David Hill

I wrote a blog about this album last year as I was so moved when I first listened to it. The album I referenced then was actually the second in a series of three recordings, recorded across a decade and utilizing different choirs and ensembles. Since then, I have acquired all three recordings and each one is a gem.

While the soloists, choirs and instrumentalists are outstanding, the real genius here is the arranging. David Hill is that genius. What he does with the harmony and the subsequent surprises to the ear take these Christmas warhorses to an entirely new place. I’ll use this word again … transcendent.

It takes quite an effort for Christmas music to not become increasingly cloying by the time the day actually arrives. NOEL: Choral Music for Christmas is simply a great recording. Get it. Get all three.
